We require animal volunteers all year around to assist in caring for victims of the illegal wildlife trade. Over 20 species of birds, many endangered, from all over the Indonesian archipelago are undergoing refuge and rehabilitation at our centre in Sulawesi until they can safely be released. This wildlife rehabilitation centre is situated on a large plot of land along the beach in a tropical paradise in Indonesia. North Sulawesi is Indonesia’s gateway to the Philippines, a major trade route also for smuggling illegal wildlife out of the country, and is a perfect place to volunteer with animals in Indonesia.

***** We are not currently accepting volunteers to this particular project *****

Volunteer Duties
Bird Rescue Volunteers will spend a significant amount of time preparing enrichments for the birds, serving it to them and cleaning their aviaries. This includes a variety of ancillary jobs, such as cleaning food bowls, equipment and food preparation areas. Depending upon the number of volunteers and ongoing activities at the time, there will also be work in connection with building/upgrading enclosures, usually involving a lot of digging and painting.

The types and variety of duties will depend largely on the duration of stay of each volunteer and number and skills of volunteers participating. Some of the work is also seasonal and dependent upon available resources on-site at the time.

Volunteer requirements
Volunteers with enthusiasm, compassion for animals, team spirit, and who are fit enough to work hard in a hot and humid climate are desired to assist with this wildlife rehabilitation project in Sulawesi.  No animal experience is necessary, although representatives from relevant fields are more than welcome to contribute to the team.

Duration
2-8 weeks. Longer stays are possible at the Wildlife Rescue Centre in Thailand, but limited in Sulawesi due to visa restrictions.

Application
You can ask for additional information about our projects, including conditions for volunteering and costs. If you are interested in a volunteer position, please send an e-mail or letter of motivation via email to volunteer@wfft.org explaining your interest in the project, a brief paragraph about yourself and your proposed length of stay.
